FAQ
Do eMTB firmware updates add power?
Sometimes. Bosch’s Performance Upgrade 2.0 (May 2026) raised the Performance Line CX and CX-R to 120 Nm and up to 600% support, and other brands have raised peak power through updates. Many updates only fix bugs or add features, and some power increases must be approved by the bike manufacturer.
Can I update my eMTB motor myself?
It depends on the system. Bosch smart system, DJI Avinox, Specialized and (from 2026) TQ deliver updates through their apps; Shimano uses the E-Tube Project app; older Bosch systems, Pinion and some others need a dealer.
Is it safe to update the firmware before a ride?
Update at home with a charged battery and enough time — an interrupted update can leave the system unusable until it is restarted or reflashed by a dealer. Check the release notes for changes to support levels or modes.
