Obscur is a new eMTB brand from the Drôme region of France, set up by the carbon composites company Workshape, which also makes parts for aerospace and research customers. Its first bike, the Obscur ENYX, was shown at Roc d'Azur on 8 October 2026 and is one of the first two production eMTBs with the Intradrive GD8 – a 700 W motor with a built-in 8-speed gearbox. The other is the Alutech ePelmo GD8.
Obscur ENYX: carbon frame made in France
The frame and the one-piece carbon handlebar of the top build are hand-laid from European-sourced high-modulus prepreg and cured in an autoclave; the rocker links are forged carbon and the battery housing is recycled carbon. Obscur quotes a frame weight of 4 kg, gives a 10-year frame warranty and says it can repair the frame in its own workshop, even after a crash.
The ENYX is an all-mountain/enduro bike with 150 mm of rear travel, a 160 mm fork and mixed wheels (29" front, 27.5" rear). The rear end uses a semi-high-pivot link suspension that, according to Obscur, moves the rear axle back by 17 mm through the travel and works with both air and coil shocks. Reach can be adjusted via offset headset cups.
Gearbox motor and 840 Wh battery
Instead of a derailleur, the Intradrive GD8 shifts eight gears inside the motor with a 480% range, in about 0.1 seconds, while pedalling, coasting or stopped. A wireless remote handles both shifting and the four assist modes, and a colour display is built into the frame. Obscur designed its own removable 840 Wh battery, which weighs 3,150 g, charges in 2.5 hours, is built in France and sits low under the shock. No complete-bike weight has been published.
