Hope Avinox Speed Sensor Rotor: brake disc and sensor ring in one

Hope has launched a 2.3 mm brake rotor for DJI Avinox eMTBs with the speed sensor slots cut straight into the disc, so the separate sensor ring can go.

Hope Technology has introduced the Avinox Speed Sensor Rotor, a brake disc for eMTBs with the DJI Avinox drive that has the speed sensor slots machined directly into the rotor. On Avinox bikes the wheel speed is normally read from a separate slotted ring bolted on alongside the disc; Hope's rotor takes over that job, so the extra ring is no longer needed.

The British brand says the new disc is based on its existing Fixed Rotor. It is laser-cut from a single piece of stainless steel and is 2.3 mm thick, which Hope says brings more stiffness, strength, vibration damping and thermal stability.

What the Hope Avinox rotor changes

The slot pattern sits on the inner part of the disc, between the bolt circle and the braking track. The fixed speed sensor on the frame stays where it is and simply reads the slots in the rotor instead of a separate ring. The disc is designed for Avinox systems that use a 42-slot sensor ring, which covers the M1, M2 and M2S motors.

For owners of Avinox-powered eMTBs such as the Canyon Spectral:ON CF 9 who want to switch to Hope discs, that means one part fewer to fit and align.

Fitting notes

Hope's instructions call for a check of the gap between the speed sensor and the rotor slots after fitting – the technical drawing gives 0.6 to 1.6 mm. Spacer washers in two thicknesses (0.8 mm and 1.0 mm) are used to set the gap. The six rotor bolts are tightened to 5 Nm, and before the first ride the wheel should spin freely and the display should show the correct speed without a system error.

Price and availability

The rotor comes in 200, 203 and 220 mm diameters with 6-bolt fitment and the hardware to mount it to the hub. Hope lists the RRP at £45.00, €56.50 or $62.40, all excluding tax. It is ordered through Hope dealers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Hope Avinox Speed Sensor Rotor?

It is a 2.3 mm, 6-bolt Hope brake disc with the DJI Avinox speed sensor slots machined into it, so no separate speed sensor ring is needed.

Which motors is it compatible with?

It is designed for DJI Avinox drives that use a 42-slot sensor ring – the M1, M2 and M2S.

What sizes are available?

Hope offers it in 200, 203 and 220 mm diameters, all 2.3 mm thick with 6-bolt fitment.

How much does it cost?

The RRP is £45.00, €56.50 or $62.40, excluding tax. It is ordered through Hope dealers.

Do I need to adjust the speed sensor?

The sensor stays in place, but the gap to the rotor slots must be checked after fitting (0.6–1.6 mm) and set with 0.8 mm or 1.0 mm spacer washers if needed.
