Crossworx, a small aluminium-frame maker from Thuringia in Germany, has given its full-power Pace290 e-MTB a mid-life update. The geometry, travel and Bosch drive stay as they were; the changes focus on stiffness, adjustability and day-to-day details.

What's new on the Crossworx Pace290

  • Shaped top tube. A new profiled top tube replaces the round tube of the first version. According to eMTB-News.de, it adds stiffness and lets the Bosch system sit more neatly in the frame.
  • ZS56/ZS56 head tube. The head tube moves from a ZS44/ZS56 standard to ZS56 at both ends, so riders can fit headsets that adjust reach or head angle.
  • One-piece motor cover. A moulded plastic cover replaces the earlier 3D-printed part, which should be more durable.
  • Tidier routing. Brake and shift lines now run straight through the motor area, reducing the number of points where they can rub.

Unchanged: Bosch CX and 160 mm travel

The frame is still made from 7020 aluminium and uses a supported single-pivot rear end, driven by a pushrod, with 160 mm of travel on a 230 × 65 mm shock. Up front it takes a 160 or 170 mm fork, and it runs either full 29" wheels or a mullet setup. Crossworx says the layout leaves room for coil shocks and adds a sag indicator on the rocker.

Power comes from the Bosch Performance Line CX. Crossworx quotes up to 750 W peak and 100 Nm; eMTB-News.de lists 120 Nm with Bosch's performance upgrade. The standard battery is a 600 Wh PowerTube, an 800 Wh PowerTube costs €250 extra, and a 250 Wh PowerMore range extender (€399) mounts in front of the shock – except on size M, where it does not fit.

The Pace290 comes in M, L and XL. Crossworx gives 64.5° head angle and 79° seat angle, and reach of 450, 480 and 510 mm. A complete size L bike starts at 23.0 kg, and a raw size L frame weighs 4.17 kg.

Price and availability

The frame kit costs €4,999 and complete bikes start at €7,499. eMTB-News.de reports a lead time of about four weeks in the raw finish and six weeks for custom paint; besides Radiant Raw there are six colours and any RAL shade.
